If that date sounds at all familiar, it may be because that night, Jason "Mayhem" Miller has promised the MMA world that he will knock out Michael Bisping. He made mention of it when he lost to Bisping at air hockey and spray painted the date on a barricade behind assistant coach Tiki Ghosn's truck.
December 3 is just hours away, and indeed, the veteran of 32 professional MMA fights will face Bisping on Saturday night in the main event of the LIVE season finale of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Bisping vs. Team Miller, coming to you on Spike at 8p/7c.
There's no love lost between Bisping and Miller, who engaged in a war of pranks and verbal sniping during the six-week taping of TUF 14.
Miller is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Fabricio Werdum and has earned 14 of his 24 professional MMA victories via submission, most recently defeating Kazushi Sakuraba via arm triangle choke last September. Other fighters who have tapped out to Miller include Robbie Lawler, Denis Kang, and Lodune Sincaid. It's safe to say he'll be looking for the submission Saturday night.
When Bisping asked Miller "When's the last time you knocked anyone out?" on one episode of TUF this season, the answer was April 17 of last year against Tim Stout at Strikeforce: Nashville. It's true that knockouts were few and far between early in his career, but of Mayhem's six TKO victories, half of them have come since 2007.
However, Bisping has been difficult to finish in his MMA career, with Dan Henderson currently standing as the only man ever to knock him out. Bisping's never been submitted in his MMA career, and he's successfully defended 57 percent of opposing takedowns. It's all well and good to set out to submit Bisping, but no one has proven that it can be done—yet.
It's hard to say exactly what Miller has planned, although he has promised to finish Bisping in the first round. Miller has also said that he's been getting information from supposed moles in Bisping's camp—a claim Bisping brushes off.
