Bravo to the UFC for signing one of the most exciting lightweight fighters in KJ Noons despite the fact that he’s lost his last 4 out of 5 fights. Clearly, Joe Silva and the rest of the decision-making crew understand that in the dwindling talent pool in the lightweight division needs fresh blood, and KJ, when he’s not getting laid on (see Josh Thomson) can be one of the most pleasant fighters to watch in the game today. KJ’s resume of striking accomplishments reads as shockingly complete. He’s an 11-2 pro boxer, he’s a decorated kickboxer and until Carlos Condit and GSP had their way with him, he was the only guy to defeat Nick Diaz for years. KJ Noons is a dangerous guy on the feet.

That’s why he doesn’t think Donald Cerrone will stand with him in their fight at UFC 160.

That’s a damn shame, considering this fight has every reason to be fight of the night, and when I saw it booked, I suspected it had fight of the year potential. Cerrone has a solid kickboxing background, and is always willing to stand and bang, but Greg Jackson may strike and tell Cowboy to get his first win of 2013.

This is what KJ said to The MMA Hour:

“I thought right away it’s a great matchup, great fireworks,” said Noons on the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” show. “I’ve got a lot of respect for the guy as a fighter … . He’s very well versed. He’s a very well-rounded fighter. He likes to stand and bang, and he can mix it up anywhere.”

“I’m not making excuses for my losses, but the last five fights, the first loss was to Nick Diaz, which was a very close fight in a weight division which I don’t even fight in,” Noons said. “I did that for the organization because they asked me to. … I did lose to [Jorge] Masvidal, so we can say that’s a loss. Came back and won a fight after that, and then I fought Josh [Thomson] and he just laid on me like a human blanket. I kind of look at that like he was pretty scared to fight. I guess it wasn’t even really a fight, and then last fight, the judges gave it to [Couture]. Like I said, I’m not trying to make a lot of excuses, but it’s just kind of where the cards fell.”

“Stylistically, I believe I still have a lot of fights left,” said Noons. “I’m an exciting fighter. I think that has a lot to play in what the UFC decides. … I’m pretty confident that my style of fighting is pretty exciting and people like to watch it. That’s what the UFC likes. They like exciting fights and what people want to see.”

“There’s only been one person that’s stood and banged with me,” said Noons. “It was Nick Diaz. I don’t know if that’s the smartest thing … . I train for every aspect of the game because it’s MMA. It might look like it’s going to be a standup war, but people want to put it wherever it’s going to be the most to their advantage. I feel like the biggest advantage for me is standing. He’s probably going to be wanting to take it anywhere, make my hands tired, make legs tired. I’m ready for wherever the fight goes. I think it’s going to be exciting anywhere.”

Saturday night's final UFC main card on FX did right at the viewership average for that type of show.

UFC on FX 8, from Santa Catarina, Brazil, headlined by Vitor Belfort's first-round TKO of former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold, averaged 1.3 million viewers for the two-hour prime time broadcast. The number is identical to the average of the previous seven main cards in prime time on the network. If including the other three main cards on the station, all Ultimate Fighter finals, the average is still 1.3 million viewers.

Belfort headlined UFC on FX 7, on Jan. 19, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, in a fight with Michael Bisping that set the series record with 1.86 million viewers. The other live main cards on the station have ranged from just under 1 million viewers to 1.4 million.

With the move to Fox Sports 1 in August, FX has only five UFC broadcasts remaining, which are the prelims leading to four pay-per-views, the next being Saturday's UFC 160, and prelims for the July 27 show from Seattle on FOX.

The three hours of prelims on Fuel drew a 0.35 rating and 156,000 viewers. The previous prelims on Jan. 19 drew a 0.47 rating and 255,000 viewers. But Saturday's figure was up 18 percent from the 132,000 viewer Fuel prelims before FX shows had averaged over the past 17 months since UFC's contract with FOX went into effect.

“The Reem” is back after a brutal knockout loss that came from the gigantic hands of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 156. His opponent will also be a humongous heavyweight in 6’7″ Travis Browne, who returns after quickly defeating Gabriel Gonzaga with elbow strikes as “Napao” was trying to get in on a takedown.

When these two Heavyweights head into the Octagon on Aug. 17 in Boston, they will likely be looking to add more content to their highlight reels. And get this, it’s not the main event! Dana White apparently has more plans for FOX Sports 1′s debut show. The card already features hometown kid Joe Lauzon, a welterweight war with Matt Brown and Thiago Alves is also on the card, which has got fireworks written all over it. The only thing left to emphasize the top of a card, more than knockout punching heavyweights, is a title fight.

Maybe Gustafsson vs. Machida will finally fill a slot to determine who is the top contender to fight Jon Jones for the belt. Who knows?

Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem both have a common opponent in Antonio “Bigfoot Silva, who fights Cain Velasquez this Saturday. Silva stunned Browne in the first round with one big right-hand and followed up with more powerful strikes. That was after an apparent knee injury Browne must have suffered earlier in round one. Overeem managed to take “Bigfoot” into the final frame, taking the first two rounds before completely running out of steam. It was early in round three when Alistair was backed against the fence and knocked out by Antonio Silva.

Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch are just days away from going head-to-head this Saturday evening on HBO from the 02 Arena in London. This time in Froch’s homeland after their initial 12-round war in 2010, when Kessler emerged victorious in his land of Denmark while gaining the WBC Super Middleweight Belt.

Mikkel Kessler has not lost since their first fight nearly three years ago, and finishing each of his last three wins by way of Knockout, while Carl Froch became the first to put a blemish on the record of Lucian Bute with a dominant win, finishing by TKO in the fifth. Both of Saturday’s super middleweight studs have crossed paths with the undefeated superstar, Andre Ward.

Ward shares some insight on how he feels the fight will unfold.

“I think Kessler has kind of dipped a little bit since he and I fought, and even since he fought Froch the first time. Even though it’s going to be a tough fight, it’s going to be back and forth. I can’t see Kessler winning this.

“Kessler’s last two performances, he hasn’t fought the best guys – a shopworn Allan Green then Brian Magee who’s very tough but limited – and he’s going to look good against them, but I don’t know if he has the same fire as when he fought Froch the first time. I would be shocked if Kessler got his hand raised. I think Froch wins and I wouldn’t be surprised if Froch caught and stopped him.”

“SOG” sees the Brit being too much for the Dane to withstand this time around. Who better to take notes from than the man who has been in the ring with both of these cats. Can Carl Froch redeem his 2010 loss to Kessler by dishing out some payback in his own hometown? Will Mikkel Kessler defeat Froch once again and silence the critics?

The inaugural card for UFC on FOX Sports 1 is taking shape. Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will take on Greg Jackson-trained Travis Browne as part of that event's main card.

However, it will not serve as the event's headlining bout, according to MMA Junkie who first reported the story. MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani has confirmed the booking.

UFC on FOX Sports 1's first event takes place at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass. on Aug. 17th. The event is part of the launch of the new sports channel, which goes live and operational that day.

Browne, 30, most recently competed for the UFC in April where he defeated Gabriel Gonzaga by first-round knockout at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale in Las Vegas, Nevada. While the win was controversial due to the location of some of Browne's elbows to the back of Gonzaga's head, and Gonzaga formally protested the result to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the win was not overturned. Browne is 5-1-1 in the UFC and 14-1-1 in professional MMA.

Overeem, 33, last competed at UFC 156 where he was upset in a stoppage loss by Antonio Silva in the third round of their February tussle. The Blackzillian is 1-1 overall in the UFC with his lone victory being a first-round TKO stoppage of former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 in December of 2011. He is 36-12 with 1 no-contest in professional MMA.
